EPIC is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as a finalist for this year's Tech South West Awards.

We are excited to share that the centre has been shortlisted in the highly competitive "Supporting the Sector" category.

Many congratulations also to EPIC tenants QLM Technology Ltd and Bay Photonics, who have collectively been shortlisted in no fewer than four categories.

As EPIC continues to attract cutting-edge companies, it looks forward to celebrating the continued success and accomplishments of its businesses.

EPIC is thrilled to announce that five of its tenants were shortlisted for prestigious awards at the 2023 Torbay Business Awards. The event, held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay, brought together over 200 members of the Torbay business community, celebrating the remarkable achievements of its local companies.

EPIC tenants Nanusens, WhiteRock Systems, Superb Media, QLM, and Bay Photonics were all among the finalists. 

During the event, EPIC tenants proudly claimed three of the ten awards:

Bay Photonics was honoured with the Award for Innovation, a testament to their groundbreaking work in the field of photonics packaging. 

QLM was recognised as the New Business of the Year, a testament to their rapid growth and innovative lidar products. Furthermore, QLM secured the highly coveted Overall Business of the Year award.

EPIC remains committed to providing a vibrant and collaborative environment for businesses to thrive, and these achievements by its tenants further demonstrate the centre's pivotal role in nurturing and promoting success.

EPIC continues to strengthen ties with industry partners by hosting a successful delegation of top German photonics and microelectronics companies. This trade mission provided EPIC and its businesses an excellent platform to showcase advanced technologies to renowned European companies.
The event also offered the nine visiting German guests a valuable opportunity to showcase their own technological advancements and explore potential collaborations with the Torbay Hi-Tech Cluster. The occasion was enhanced by an extensive tour of EPIC's state-of-the-art facilities, giving the guests a first-hand experience of the centre’s impressive capabilities and breathtaking views from the centre’s roof.
EPIC Centre Director, Wayne Loschi, expressed his excitement about the event, "This was a landmark occasion for Torbay. EPIC and our technology cluster were selected as part of a prestigious trade mission, aiming to unlock the vast opportunities in the field of UK photonics."
Building on the success of previous visits from Dutch and Finnish clusters, EPIC remains committed to attracting international partners and increasing collaboration with other innovation centres.

EPIC is strategically enhancing collaboration with partners and other innovation centres as it reaches its capacity. A recent visit by EPIC to the remarkable iAero Centre in Yeovil, located adjacent to Leonardo—the home of British helicopters—has opened exciting possibilities for closer cooperation between the two centres.
During the visit, representatives from EPIC and iAero explored various avenues for future collaboration. As an initial step, they plan to organise events that bring together microelectronics and photonics businesses within EPIC with local aerospace companies at iAero. This exchange will provide an excellent opportunity for networking and partnership development.

EPIC, in turn, will reciprocate by welcoming aerospace organisations to visit their facilities and engage with the vibrant Torbay Hi-Tech Cluster. The aim is to establish a mutual agreement that fosters the sharing of technical capabilities between tenants of both centres. This arrangement will not only enhance the value of government-funded capital projects but also provide companies with access to a broader range of technical expertise.

EPIC currently boasts an impressive collection of technical capabilities worth over £3 million, including product assembly, device packaging, microscopy, and analysis. These resources are available for EPIC's tenants to utilise and leverage for their projects.
