EPIC Introduces Alignment Capability
The Electronics & Photonics Innovation Centre (EPIC) in Torbay (UK) has taken delivery of a new Package Fibre Alignment System to further increase the centre’s technical capability.
The project saw EPIC tenants Queensgate – a brand of Prior Scientific, EFFECT Photonics and Bay Photonics collaborate to develop an industry-focused alignment solution.
In addition to the equipment being an import asset to EPIC tenants, the development will soon be launched to the market to enable Prior Scientific to meet the needs of a very niche market. Technically, the alignment capability breaks new boundaries and is the world’s longest travel multi-axis piezo nanopositioning stage.
This added technical capability will complement the Assembly, Device Packaging and Test & Analysis equipment that is already available for EPIC tenants to use.
EPIC Centre Director, Wayne Loschi, is thrilled with the investment “EPIC committed to bringing Alignment capability into the centre to support the needs of our businesses. Unfortunately, there was no technical solution available on the market to support the complex demands of our clients. We therefore linked up some of our tenants and supported the development of a system that offers the capability and the flexibility that was needed.“
Craig Goodman, Technical Sales Engineer at Prior Scientific, is looking forward to launching this product to market in the upcoming months. “Working closely with the users of this alignment system enabled us to offer technical solutions to real-life problems that are not being addressed by competitive products currently on the market.”
