Founder EPIC tenant Prior Scientific are currently advertising for an Assembly Technician to carry out electronic and mechanical assembly of Queensgate nanopositioning products. The Electronics & Photonics Innovation Centre (EPIC) in Torbay (UK) has taken delivery of a new Package Fibre Alignment System to further increase the centre’s technical capability.

The project saw EPIC tenants Queensgate – a brand of Prior Scientific, EFFECT Photonics and Bay Photonics collaborate to develop an industry-focused alignment solution.  

In addition to the equipment being an import asset to EPIC tenants, the development will soon be launched to the market to enable Prior Scientific to meet the needs of a very niche market. Technically, the alignment capability breaks new boundaries and is the world’s longest travel multi-axis piezo nanopositioning stage.

This added technical capability will complement the Assembly, Device Packaging and Test & Analysis equipment that is already available for EPIC tenants to use.

EPIC Centre Director, Wayne Loschi, is thrilled with the investment “EPIC committed to bringing Alignment capability into the centre to support the needs of our businesses. Unfortunately, there was no technical solution available on the market to support the complex demands of our clients. We therefore linked up some of our tenants and supported the development of a system that offers the capability and the flexibility that was needed.“

Craig Goodman, Technical Sales Engineer at Prior Scientific, is looking forward to launching this product to market in the upcoming months. “Working closely with the users of this alignment system enabled us to offer technical solutions to real-life problems that are not being addressed by competitive products currently on the market.”

WhiteRock Systems continues its expansion within EPIC

Software specialist and founding EPIC tenant WhiteRock Systems has had an exciting start to 2022. The business has won several lucrative new contracts to supply bespoke software solutions to clients in the Recruitment and Law-enforcement sectors.

This success has resulted in WhiteRock Systems growing their team within EPIC with a view of servicing these new contracts and building upon this expansion. They currently have three lucrative roles, a Business Manager,  a .NET Developer and a Graduate .NET Developer that they plan to fill within the next few weeks.

Director Alex O’Donovan has been instrumental in this growth and is very enthusiastic about the prospects of the business:

EPIC’s ongoing marketing campaign continued at the recent Photonics West 2022 exhibition in San Francisco.

The event welcomed over 10,000 visitors from all over the world, most of which were excited about the prospect of this prestigious conference returning as a face-to-face event.

EPIC had a small stand which was supported by The Heart of the South West (HotSW) LEP, and met scores of foreign owned businesses to discuss financial incentives of up to £150k to relocate to the region. EPIC also promoted its growing technical capability which is available for businesses to access as part of the offer for taking space within the centre.

In addition to the interest in EPIC, one standout outcome from the exhibition was the opportunities that arose for tenant Bay Photonics who were present at the show. This is hoped will support this business with their ongoing growth.
